Comment: My 86-year-old house has many settling issues complete with sloping floors on the first and second floor. Since I'm preparing to have my first floor refinished, I think it would be a good time to address the original tree-trunk supports in the basement which have bowed and compressed into the concrete (allowing water to come up, as well). How to fix this elemental support issue in a permanent way is my question. Two other concerns for advisement: a basement that has water seeping issues; a front step / stoop that has been heaved away from the house, taking the doorway with it, due to frost.
