Project: Repair a Brick or Stone Fireplace
City: Harmans, MD
"Had 16 rows of brick at the top of a chimney replaced and a liner added. The job was completed in two parts(about a week apart): masonry, which was subcontracted, and adding the new liner. Masonry: Extremely pleased with the masonry -- they even matched the 40 year old brick style which other contractors could not. Slightly disappointed with the vertical flashing applied, it appears to have been bent by hand which causes it to be flush with the bricks at the high end of the chimney but extend out about 2 inches at the bottom. It is functional, but does not look professional. Lining: Installation of the chimney lining was fairly straightforward, however, the cement patchwork around the opening in the basement wall where the liner enters the basement was poorly applied. It pulled away from the concrete wall at the opening top enough to put your finger through. The contractor was very responsive and sent out a team to chip out the concrete patchwork and reapply it. They did a great job the second time round."
