Comment: We have just had a gas fireplace insert replaced. The damage done to the plaster,lath,dry wall around the insert opening will require replacing lath and plaster. The plaster should bullnose to the surface of the insert. The existing fireplace structure is from floor to ceiling is VERY fine, smoothe plaster over metal lath. There is an oak mantle above the fireplace insert.
