I like the "before" better than the "after"....The new kitchen is much too dark for my taste.

stan m Los Angeles. I agree with Margaret that the kitchen is too dark and not any more interesting than the original. It looks like a remodeled kitchen but black finishes are passe and material selection was uninteresting. Lighten the cabinets and use an attractively grained wood. If you want to keep the dark cabinets one suggestion would be to find a brighter and/or fresher to use for the appliances instead of black. If you want to keep the black use different cabinet selections. There are a large and increasing selection of attractive finishes in veneers from plastics to metals as well as woods. Kitchens can be attractive and interesting without being too personal; as there are richer and more interesting materials available for kitchen counters and almost all are low or no maintainece

As an architect who has designed a number of kitchen remodels, I see a glaring absence of good design decisionss in this kitchen and I agree wholeheartedly with all the other comments about the dark cabinets and appliances....I particularly dislike raised panel cabinets....too fussy. But perhaps the most glaring fault is the substitution of a free-standing range with that ugly raised back panel for the separate ovens and cooktop. This almost forces the use of a combination microwave/venting system, which is not only unattractive and which unpleasantly interrupts the line of the cabinetry, but also is totally useless as a venting system,,,,,these are just "air filtering systems." A nice vent hood with a minimum of 350 CFM vented to the outside is the only effective solution to this. This kitchen makes plain the need for good professional design as this one was obviously "designed" by a builder!

Would loved to have seen brushed stainless steel appliances and bar handles or knobs for the cabinets. Love, love the backsplash and flooring. The dark cabinet choice would have definitely worked if there was an abundance of natural light or windows, skylight etc.
