KITCHENS: Country Kitchen

Fred Peters of F&P Remodeling by Design works in Minnesota but had to travel into Wisconsin for this kitchen/great room remodel. Fred said the trick was that there was no barrier between the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

The homeowners wanted a border for the kitchen, and Fred had just the recipe. He installed what he called a "baking center", or a kitchen pass-through, that was flanked on each side by a floor to ceiling cabinet. One side was a hutch, and the other a broom closet. Above was a lighted glass cabinet for glassware with glass shelving that Fred thought knew would emit a great reflective glow in the evenings. The homeowners wanted a lot out of this small space, and since F&P Remodeling by Design does their own design and construction, they knew how to get the most out of this project. Done in three phases, the entire project took about eight weeks, which included installing new hardwood flooring, pine cabinets, granite and laminate countertops, and tile backsplash. An added component not easily seen in the photos are full extension heavy drawer glides to get the most out of the big drawers in the baking center. The result is a cozy country kitchen in this vacation home.
