Hi, my name is Jim Waterhouse, aka Old Time Handyman. I have more than 30 years experience delivering quality workmanship in a timely manner. In a profession filled with dishonest practices and shoddy work, I pride myself on being different from the bunch. My full-time profession is as a high school drama teacher at a local Title I school and my handyman business supplements my family's income. However, I worked as a handyman exclusively for years all over Southern California with many years spent as the local go to man in the Malibu area. In order to meet the needs of my clients during these difficult economic times, I've lowered my prices by 30% this summer only. I chose to work in this industry because I've always loved the challenge involved in being presented with a wide variety of problems to solve and the creativity of working with my hands..I love working in All over the San Gabriel Valley but particularly around the Pasadena area because my family's lived in Pasadena for five generations..We started in this industry in 1983.We describe our business as Family owned and operated

Project: Install or Repair Door or Window Screens
Jim, did some tile work in the bathroom. He did a great job on the tile. I then had him install two screen doors. I don't think he knew how to install the doors correctly, but ultimately they look decent. You could tell which door he did first, and which door he did second (when he was tired, and not happy about his pay). I would suggest to anybody that uses him that they have him bid the job, and not do hourly. He was initially hired on the hour ($35), but when he showed up the day of the job, the timeline changed from 3 hours to 6 hours. I felt it was a bait and switch. ultimately i paid for the job. Jim was no happy and it showed.

I gave Tim an estimate of three hours or about $100 to install two standard doors and lay the tile. His doors were non-standard. I informed him he needed either custom doors or custom framing which would be $210. It was a bigger job than that but I wanted him to be satisfied. Halfway to the store he called and said he felt I was doing a "bait and switch" and would pay only $160, I should do it for that or he implied he'd write a bad review. When I got back I let him know I felt the price was unfair and asked him to negotiate this larger job. He refused. I completed a $420/twelve hour job for $160. You just can't please some people.

Just wanted to tell you folks about the great work done by Jim Waterhouse of Old Time Handyman. He was on time, fixed the door right away, and did a great job. I will be hiring him for future projects as they arise.

Very prompt and thorough. He couldn't fix one problem so he found a colleague who could and fixed it within the hour. He went to the store and shopped for the parts, kept me apprised of every step and did a wonderful job. I will use him again and highly recommend him.

he was prompt, honest, clean, thorough, friendly and did a great job on a small leak in the bathroom and installing some outdoor electrical outlets. im already making a to-do list for next month. Jim is great - i come from a family of do-it yourselfers and he is more reliable! (shhh... dont tell my brother i said that).

He contacted me within 30 min of the search result and was able to come out within an hour - on a holiday! He was very flexible to my requests and did a great job with all the things I needed help with. He went with me to 2 IKEA's to get the items and loaded everything to the cart and his truck and brought all the items up to my apartment. He was very patient with all my requests to try out different configurations. Very professional and very personable and did an excellent job. I would highly recommend Jim to everyone.

He responded the same day I inquired about the work and set up a time to come out. He said he could do the work, gave us a quote and started a little later. Since he needed to take the door off-site to work on it, he put in a substitute door so we would not have a hole. He did very nice work and it is now finished. A great craftsman. He also did a few other small jobs for us while he was here. He was pleasant and professional.
