Many of the chimney sweep pros charge a fee to come out and look at the work to be done. The fee goes towards servicing the fireplace and chimney, so if you're planning on taking several quotes, be sure you negotiate this charge because you won't need the fireplace serviced more than once.

When the tech came in and saw we had a gas log fireplace he was very honest in telling us that these really do not need to be cleaned. He looked outside and offered a couple of suggestions.
