I accepted the bid from Licon based primarily on price and perceived knowledge of the system. It was a fixed contract for $150 or $250 based on the amount of modification and up to $500 in parts. The not to exceed was $800 based on parts - labor was fixed.

Licon worked three partial days, replaced the sprinkler heads, dug out and replaced some of the risers, made repairs where necessary to cracked piping. In the end, Some of the planned heads were not replaced and several drip systems were tapped off of the existing risers. I was aksed to pay $1,500, which was negotiated to $1,000.

The anticipated cost was $150 for labor, since we had our gardener lay new pipe and up to $500 - the total anticipated, worse case should have been $650.

Currently, our budget has been overspent because one zone has a broken pipe and still needs to be repaired.

A couple cautions - Licon unilaterally changed the contract without out input from us at the time when he felt the scope of the job was changed.

Second, it would be good for the next customer to receive an itemized list of what will be done and what determines ala carte scope changes.
