I've been building cabinets and remodeling kitchens and more for over 29 years.  Design has always been an important part of what I do because I see the end result, and I have many ideas that are way beyond what most contractors and designers can do.  In my opinion, every kitchen should be capable of looking like a showroom or magazine kitchen, usually with little or no additional cost.  I look at things from a practical standpoint to make sure the design and materials are efficient and long-lasting. If you want only a design, I can provide you with that, and then you can talk to other contractors and cabinet providers.  I can give you a free estimate with high and low figures of what your kitchen would cost, whether we do it or somebody else. When I design a kitchen, I usually provide a number of layouts, each with floor plans, perspective views, and notes regarding each plan and the good and bad aspects of each.  The cost to do this is usually less than a single plan from other designers. Since I do the complete project,  I know how feasible the plan is to implement, and can do things that others don't realize can be done.
