Criterium-Giles Engineers is the only eastern North Carolina office of Criterium-Engineers, a company with more than 45 years of experience and professional engineering services for buildings. Our office will provide professional and quality engineering services with focus on buildings, complex structures and their energy efficiencies. Robert C. Giles, P.E., the owner and president of Criterium-Giles Engineers is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and several other states. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University. He has more than 25 years of combined experience in structural assessments of new and old homes, property condition assessments, environmental engineering, mechanical designs and conceptual studies, construction monitoring and capital reserve studies.

Project: Analyze a Structural Issue (Structural Engineer)
I've used Bob Giles several more time since this original Job a few years ago to figure out how to support a heavy fish tank. Since then I've gotten his advice any time I put something heavy and potentially damaging into my house, from a heavy Safe to a punching bag installed in the garage. Each time he does a thorough look at the structure and sends back a report that includes several different options and what deflection would be. Very nice guy!

for a little over $300 we found out that we did not need to pay the $4000 to lift our house that had been quoted to us because of a crack in the foundation. Very worth it!

They have done two certifications and the required tests for floor load level and an insulation restest and both times were punctual, pleasant to work with, knowledgeable and kept me informed and explained things i did not understand. They were helpful all through the process and provided the results on a timely basis and resonable cost.

Friendly, thorough, practical, and very accommodating. Bob provided a detailed frank assessment of what was needed, coupled with plans which took our personal needs into consideration. I would definitely hire him again for any structural work I need.

Bob Giles did a great job performing the engineering for the screen porch addition to my house. He did the work in a very timely manner and discussed several options for various aspects of the concrete, masonry, and wood framing work. Bob is very knowledgable, personable, and easy to work with. His fee was very reasonable. I would definately recommend him to a friend.

Worst experience ever work was not professional, i'm taking Walter Toet to court, he did not stick to the contract and did not refund our money when the job was done incorrectly. Do not hire this company to do your work, it will be a waste of time and money

Mr Giles was kind enough to call and explain what the requirements were before coming out to inspect. Once the appointment was made, he arrived on time and explained what he was inspecting and how it looked. I was very please with Mr. Giles.
