Skylights are roof windows - an overhead window placed in the ceiling to allow more light into the room. There are two basic types for residential use: flat glass skylights and domed skylights. Most varieties are double glazed or triple glazed in order to achieve a proper energy efficiency. For ceilings with an attic space above, a light shaft or sun tunnel must be used. Flashings are used to seal the roofing during skylight installation.
