Painting drywall is much like coating any wall in your home; the steps are very similar for the most part. Of course, you have to prepare your project by sanding the wall and making sure there is no residual dust on it. Then, you should prime your sheetrock, applying multiple coats if needed. Then, you may need to sand again to smooth out any texturized bumps or seams, and make sure you prime these areas again afterwards. Then it’s time to paint. When painting drywall, you may need to give it several coats, at least two at the minimum. Another idiosyncrasy in painting drywall is that during every step you need to keep an eye out for blemishes (holes, cracks, nicks, cuts, etc) that may need to be filled with compound throughout the project.
