Sandblasting is the process of propelling fine bits of material in order to smooth and clean a surface. In exterior home improvement projects, sandblasting is most often used as a method of priming a surface before you apply paint or sealant. When painting, you want to remove all previous imperfections, and you want your surface to be free of the dust, dirt, and bubbles that exist in previous layers of paint. When you use a compressor and sandblaster to prime a surface, all imperfections are knocked loose and can then be easily washed off, creating an incredibly smooth surface upon which your new layer of paint can be applied.
