Comment: Kitchen is about 25 by 20 square feet. Have to work around built-in stove island in the middle. Have vinyl tile on plywood underneath. Dishwasher broke and leaked and ruined most tile. Tile was starting to look rough anyway--lots of kids and difficult to keep clean. We tore up the tile and wood in the damaged/wet area and have had a rug over it for the last month. The rest of the floor (tile + plywood) will need to be removed. I'm guessing cement board rather than plywood will need to be used. We would want ceramic or porcelain tile this time round. We had samples and like how flat porcelain tile feels and looks. House was built in 50's and am not sure if it and hardwood floor can handle weight of more than vinyl, which is why we used that previously (over prior vinyl floor, which also had to be replaced because of water damage when the frig broke and leaked a decade ago, a similar event). - If contractor delves in other areas besides flooring or can give good referral, we a
