| Comment: We have an existing roof-covered porch that is only 4' deep. We would like to extend the decking at least 8' out from the existing area, angulated to fit above the existing patio of flagstone. The existing railing, even the sections where the deck wouldn't be enlarged, needs replacing as squirrels have gnawed on them. The replacement should have some sort of protective sleeve or something to keep the squirrels from destroying the new rail cap. Some of the existing ....spindles....don't know what the vertical wood pieces that make up the railing are supposed to be called....probably need replaced as well. The entire railing was not what I would call well built. I would like screws rather than nails used on the new decking and any areas of repair or replacement. I think putting the flooring in on the diagonal in the addition area might be attractive. It should be pressure-treated, all weather wood (will gladly accept advice as to what kind of wood is used). I want full-length boards used |
