| Comment: We have a large heave (approx. 3' X 3') on the floor of our finished family room which is the result of the failure of an earlier repair/patch of the floor following a repair of a broken water pipe under the floor. The water line has long since been rerouted and we no longer have running water under the house. We've been told by a civil engineer that the original repair was not done properly nor were the correct materials used. The floor has since heaved and crumbled over time. The engineer has recommended that we cut a 4' X 4' square, dig down at least a foot, put at least 6" of gravel topped with 4-6" of 600 PSI concrete. We have already had the carpeting rolled back and the area is now exposed. I've been told by our insurance company that I need to get three estimates from different contractors as I have filed an additional claim. Either way, the floor needs to be repaired as soon as possible as it has become a safety issue/tripping hazard. |
