Once of the great things about adding a deck to your home is that it won't affect you daily routines. Since your deck will be going outside, you won't have contractors and materials all over your house, not to mention that you won't have your water or electricity shut for any period of time. However, there are some things you need to know that will help your working relationship with your deck builder.

Deck Contractors
Just because your deck contractor will be outside doesn't mean that you have to ignore him. It is in your best interest you check in periodically, not just to see if he needs anything, but to make sure that everything is being built to plan. Every project has snags and things that will go differently than the plan because of a problem with the house or the yard or city codes, so by being available you can stay a top of every change.

However, you should also be aware that no one likes to be eyeballed while they are trying to do their job. So be sure to give your deck builder plenty of room to do the work. He is the pro and knows best how to do everything.

A Few Nice Things
Most decks are usually built during the summer and deck building is hard, hot work. Deck contractors will most likely bring liquids to keep themselves hydrated, but there's not a contractor alive who wouldn't appreciate a cold glass of lemonade or water. This is not only a great treat, but it also them know that you are thinking about the contractors who are working for you. While they may not see you very often, they know that you appreciate their work. I've found that contractors are much more willing to do the little things for you once you have shown you appreciate them. This can sometimes come in the form of discounts, but is usually manifests in doing small things, like cleaning up every nail or screw in the yard and taking the time to fix every little thing. It's amazing how much a little kindness can afford you.
