According to ServiceMagic, requests for solar panel installation have grown a whopping 773.5% in the past year, but it's not just the "blue states" that are solar happy. The numbers show that many "red states" are doing their part to keep this country green for future generations!

5. Tennessee
In Tennessee, where Republicans got 57% of the vote this November, residents are making solar energy a part of more lives every day. ServiceMagic reports an incredible 875% increase in the number of requests for solar panel installation in rural Tennessee (with a 900% increase in Nashville) since last year!

4. Mississippi
SM saw fewer requests for solar panel installation in Mississippi over the past two months than they saw in Tennessee. However, when you look at the percentages, Mississippi's market for solar power is growing at a rate that is truly phenomenal! Compared to last year, SM saw 1650% more requests for solar panel installation in rural Mississippi (with a 1100% increase in Jackson), making it one of the biggest solar hot-beds in the country!

3. Minnesota
As of the day this article was finished, CNN's site still has Minnesota listed as a "gray state." Whether or not projections of Minnesota's "redness" will turn out to be correct, the fact is that the people there have a marked interest in solar energy, with the state as a whole showing solar panel installation requests skyrocketing by 2400% since this time last year!

2. Georgia
Georgia's green energy initiatives are paying off for all of us! SM's figures show that residents of the peach state have racked up more than 100 requests for solar panel installation in the past month, with the city of Atlanta pulling in 67 requests alone! While most of the electricity in Georgia is being produced by coal, this "red state's" growing interest in renewable energy is something everyone from Michael Stipe to Uga can be proud of!

1. Texas
With San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston combining for just under 150 solar panel installation requests last month, Texas is one "red state" that is undoubtedly green! Additionally, when you consider that the American Wind Energy Association shows that Texas has 6297 megawatts worth of installed wind energy (which, by the way, makes Texas the nation's #1 consumer of wind energy, with more that double the amount consumed in California), there's no doubt that the Lone Star State is doing its part to create a cleaner, more eco-friendly America!
