Find Prescreened Professionals

One of the most common problems homeowners face when re-decorating a home is whether to paint or wallpaper. Housepainting and wallpaper are two entirely different birds, both from an application and a decorative, standpoint. That being the case, it's important to educate yourself as to the pros and cons of each option. To be honest, both products offer you excellent choices when it comes to attractive home design. The most important thing to consider when it comes to housepainting and wallpaper is proper and professional application. If you follow that rule, you're going to end up with a stunning home, whichever product you settle on.

Choosing Paint for Your Interiors
Paint has passed wallpaper in popularity for a number of reasons. For starters, it's easier to apply. Wallpaper requires a laborious number of steps, and if you cut corners on any of them, your wallpaper is likely to fail. Paint, on the other hand, can be applied by any homeowner with a weekend or two to spare, with relatively little preparation. And while it might not look like a professional did the job, it's still going to improve the looks of your home. The other reason to choose paint, in the housepainting and wallpaper debate, the design possibilities with paint have exploded, and there isn't much you can't do with a creative paint design that you can't accomplish with wallpaper. Altering paint colors when applying borders, trim work, and even basic wall design, can provide the variety that draws many homeowners to wallpaper in the first place. And with advancements in texturing and coloring techniques, paint can look just as original and unique as wallpaper when you're all said and done.

Choosing Wallpaper for Your Interior Walls
Of course, for many homeowners paint just doesn't compare to wallpaper when it comes to design possibilities and decorative flair. With advancing technology, you can find a wallpaper to match any room or design, from traditional country living rooms, to modern, hip, kids' rooms. As versatile as paint is, you just can't match the intricate designs that wallpaper provides. Especially in rooms where you're attempting to achieve a specific look, wallpaper takes the cake.

Country style homes, where you want to capture that down-home feeling of Grandma's farmhouse, almost necessitate wallpapering to achieve the proper look. And when it comes to kids' rooms, wallpaper is king. With designs that range from cartoon characters to exciting and adventurous jungle landscapes, there are few wall coverings that can accomplish the attractiveness, fun, and imagination that wallpaper can.

Housepainting and Wallpapering Tips
There are a few things to remember, whether you choose painting or wallpapering for your home. First of all, be sure to research into proper application techniques to make sure your wallcoverings are going to last. With paint, take care when applying paint to corners and trim, so that sloppy finish work doesn't take away from a good looking, overall paint job. With wallpaper, follow all the instructions of the wallpapering supplier to a T. And if you're thinking about painting over, or wallpapering over, old wallpaper, think again. It might seem easier to just paint over the existing covering, but you're always better off removing the old wallpaper, regardless of which direction you're headed in next.

Talk to a painter or wallpaper installer about which designs, colors, and styles, are going to be best for your home. And consider hiring a professional in order to get the best results possible. As mentioned before, both of these tasks are definitely within reach of an average homeowner. But no amateur can achieve the quality or design innovations that a professional is going to provide.
