In St. Louis, heating systems aren't just a matter of basic home maintenance, they can be a matter of life-and-death. Even in a moderate climate with four distinct seasons like St. Louis has, it often feels like winter is always just a week or a month away. Moreover, heating systems that "work" aren't necessarily "in good working condition." Older systems that haven't been cleaned in a while are almost certainly causing a drag on your monthly income during the winter. Whether you need a new heating system, repairs on a current system, or help maintaining a basic maintenance schedule, we can help you find the right person for all your home heating needs.

St. Louis Heating System: Inspections, Maintenance, and Repair
Perhaps, the biggest tip we can give homeowners is that it's never too early to have your heating system inspected, cleaned, repaired, and/or replaced. Catch an HVAC contractor during a slow period—generally during the height of spring and fall when temperatures require neither heating nor cooling—and you may just find a steal. If nothing else, you should throw your heating system on for an hour, at least a few weeks to a month before it's needed. Needless to say, if your home and household has to endure sub-freezing temperatures, you're unlikely to be able to wait for the contractor of your preference, who may have appointments lined up for a week or more. And worse, if you need to have your furnace or heating system replaced, you may not take enough time to carefully weigh your options for a new unit.

St. Louis Heating System Costs and Options
If you're looking for green alternatives, you should be at least wary of high-tech solutions such as geothermal heating and solar panels. Admittedly, these heating systems may pay for themselves in about 20 years, if you're able to sell your energy surplus back to your utility company, but more conventional heating systems are still extremely efficient and will recover their expense sooner. Plus, you can use the thousands of dollars you save toward purchasing a fuel-efficient car—probably a better investment for your money and for the environment. One modern heating system you should look at is a hybrid heating system that uses a heat pump for moderately cold temperatures and a conventional furnace for the brutal, middle-of-the-winter freezes.

To replace your furnace, a moderately energy-efficient unit with, say, an 82-85 percent efficiency rating might cost you somewhere in the neighborhood of $6,000-$8,000, depending on the size of your home and the complexity of the pipes and ducts. A more highly-rated, top-of-the-line system, or some type of hybrid system might cost you $10,000-$13,000. Of course, even these ranges can vary for unusually small or large homes.
