Shower curtains are often overlooked when a homeowner renovates or spruces up a bathroom area. The truth is, a good shower curtain both protects your bathroom floor and walls and adds panache to one of the most frequently used rooms in your house.

Vinyl vs. Fabric
The first decision to make when shopping for a new curtain is material. Vinyl shower curtains are an excellent choice because they look great and protect your bathroom from water damage. Going with a fabric curtain will generally give you more design possibilities, but you'll have to buy an extra vinyl liner to do the dirty work of repelling water. Of course, this isn't such a bad way to go either, since vinyl liners are relatively inexpensive and can be tossed and replaced when they get too dirty. Not a bad option if cleaning a curtain isn't your idea of a good time.

Think Big
Most homeowners don't realize how many design possibilities are out there when it comes to choosing shower curtains. There's psychedelic designs, contemporary art deco curtains, wildlife scenes, curtains for kids, and just about everything else. Whether you're outfitting the bathroom in your mountain cabin or your seaside retreat, there's a perfect curtain out there to set the mood!

Talk to an Interior Designer
If you're really tired of how your bathroom looks, keep in mind that shower curtains can only do so much. Talk to an interior designer about creating a new bathroom design for you, from the paint color right on up to new fixtures and accessories. And if you're really looking to shake things up, talk to a contractor experienced in bathroom remodels about improving your bathroom from the ground up. Remember, a new shower curtain can add life to your water closet, but if you've grown tired of that same old space, maybe taking it all the way is the best route to go.
