With spa showers, heated toilet seats, and all of the other options available to the modern homeowner for bathroom remodeling, one staple is a veritable constant for homes around the country. In San Diego, bathroom tile is a popular choice not just for its fantastic appearance, but for its practicality, as well. In moisture-rich situations like bathrooms, very few materials are as durable or as desirable as the one that has been the standard for decades. Those thinking about remodeling, or anyone building a new house, should definitely take a closer look at this classic material that is as functional now as it was years ago.

San Diego Bathroom Tile Benefits
Though there are quite a few reasons to opt for installing bathroom tile in San Diego, probably the most compelling is its performance. When it comes to finding a material that is well suited to its environment, you just can't beat good old fashioned tile in a bathroom setting. It's meant for moisture, and can literally last the life of your house, as long as it's properly installed. As far as maintenance goes, it's more than likely that, once the installation is complete, all your tile will need is regular cleaning.

Practicality aside, tile looks the part in just about any type of bathroom decorating scheme imaginable. This is because, whether you like a bathroom with a modern feel or prefer a more country look, there's a tile out there that will go with it perfectly. In San Diego, bathroom tile embossed with traditional designs can give a home an authentically southwestern feel. A more contemporary setting might do better with granite tiles or a glossy black-and-white installation. Whatever the setting, and whatever your taste, there will be tiles available to suit your needs.

San Diego Flooring Tile
Tile's good qualities don't end at the bathroom door. In San Diego, flooring tile is a common sight for places in the home that see a lot of traffic, or may be exposed to excessive moisture. Even though the frequency of precipitation is pretty low in San Diego, flooring tile is a good idea around entryways. Though there will certainly be far less tracked-in mud in a southern California home than there would be in, say, a home in Seattle, installing tile near the front and back doors will allow you an easy-to-clean landing.

In kitchens, living rooms, and even bedrooms, flooring tile's low maintenance can make it a pretty desirable choice. When compared to other common flooring choices like carpet or hardwood, tile is easier to clean, requires less upkeep, and will not stain the second something gets spilled on it.

Replacing Grout
Tile itself simply needs to be wiped down when it is dirty, but the grout in between the tiles is a little trickier. Old grout that is badly stained may not be able to be cleaned at all. In this scenario, the top layer of grout can be scraped off and replaced by new grout. Modern grout is designed to resist stains better than grout of decades past. Additionally, sealant has also come a long way in keeping grout looking new for longer.

San Diego Bathroom Tile Pricing
What you pay to install tile will depend a lot on how big of a surface you're covering, and the material (and sometimes the design) of the particular tile you choose. To replace a small area of bathroom tile, San Diego residents may only have to pay a couple hundred dollars. To completely redo a bathroom in specialty tile, the price can easily run $3,000 or more. As always, the best way to stretch your home improvement dollar is to get estimates from several different contractors.
