Find Prescreened Professionals

As with every piece of machinery, an air conditioner from time to time will break down or malfunction. Aside from creating a less-than-comfortable environment, AC problems can cost you a lot of money in energy bills, especially if your system is allowed to run at low efficiency for months (or, in some cases, years) at a time. To keep your system running as smoothly, and cost effectively, as possible, a periodic visit from your local San Diego air conditioning repairperson will be a necessity.

San Diego Air Conditioning Repairs: Inspection and Maintenance

Calling a professional at the first sign of trouble can often save you a significant amount of money in repair costs. AC problems don't fix themselves or go away on their own. As soon as you identify that there is definitely a problem, it's a good idea to call for repairs before that problem gets any bigger.

It is recommended that you get your system inspected once a year, even if it is running well. A licensed San Diego air conditioning specialist will be able to examine your system (for relatively little money) and tell you about existing problems, as well as diagnose problems that could occur in the future. HVAC technicians are specially trained to repair your system, which is far more complex than many people might think.

There are a few things you can do yourself, however, which will help keep your system running smoothly. First, always replace or clean your filter regularly. This is a very simple operation that anyone can do, and it will make a difference in how hard your system has to work to perform well. It's also a good idea to make a visual examination of the outside condenser unit. Make sure that it is in no way encumbered by surrounding debris or objects placed on top of it. If you see any large collection of ice on your condenser coils, it may be an indicator of a larger problem.

Air Conditioner Replacement

In some cases, problems that are too large, or have been neglected for too long, are not good candidates for air conditioner repair. San Diego residents that have very old systems, or systems that will be too pricey to fix will have several replacement options to consider.

Ductless and mini-duct AC systems are relatively new to the market, and can cool a home effectively and efficiently without the need for the massive amount of ductwork required in older systems. This can mean less noticeable vents, as well as a significant amount of freed up attic space. If you don't want to spend the time or money replacing both your condenser and your ductwork, newer conventional AC systems use less energy and run quieter than their predecessors. You can even opt for an air conditioner/heat pump unit that can provide both heating and cooling for your home.

If you cool your home with window units, these options are still viable, but installation might be a larger expense than you want. Replacing your existing window unit can often be done for a few hundred dollars. Newer model window air conditioners are also more efficient than those of a decade or two ago.

Prices of Air Conditioning Repair in San Diego

The cost of San Diego air conditioning repair is pretty comparable to prices across the country. According to our data here at ServiceMagic, the national average cost for both window unit and central air conditioning repair is around $350. In San Diego, many repairs are made for around $100 or $200, though we've also seen repair costs in the area go as high as $600. Once repairs get to be anywhere near $1,000, it's time to consider replacement. Installing a new central air conditioning system in the San Diego area ranges in price from $2,000 to $9,000.
