Keys to Success: Why Your Profile Matters

At ServiceMagic, we pride ourselves on the fact that there is no preferential treatment for Pros who are matched to a lead. Whether you spend $350/month with us or $10,000/month, you get the same billing in front of homeowners. That is, except for your profile.

Your Profile: The Silent Killer
Just to be clear, every member has an equal chance to improve his profile; it's just that many pros don't realize its importance. Imagine this: you and another pro are matched to a homeowner, and we send her emails from both of you. The homeowner looks at both profiles before either of you call. Your profile has a few sentences about what you do— and not much else. The other pro has photos from his past projects, current promotions for his work, his company logo, a photo of his office, and quotes from his 5-Star customers.

Who do you think the homeowner is going to choose?

Brass Tacks
Improving your profile is not just busy work, even if it might seem like it. Your competitors are improving theirs; and if yours looks second-rate and theirs looks top-notch, they are going to win the job every time. So take some time to make yours perfect and be sure to improve on it every few months. Just like being the first to call, this will make a difference. A huge difference.

I agree with what you are all saying. However I find servicemagic to be very beneficial to my business. Its the same as advertising any were else. Only better. Lets face it. You can advertise with a paper or phone book ect. You pay allot of money and you aren't even guaranteed a call. At least with servicemagic you know you have a job to go look at. The economy for painting is very slow right now. I've been painting for long enough to see good and bad and it is bad right now. The last couple of years I saw it has been slowing down. So last year I advertised with about 10 different company's, papers, ect, just to see how bad it was. 1 year later the only company that I'm still with is servicemagic. All that advertising was a complete waste of money. Say what you want about them but I have yet to find something better right now. If anyone has any suggestions on any better advertising, I'm all ears. Word of mouth. Thats the best advertising

I will agree with all of the above, the no- responses are frustrating, but the customer really has no Idea that us contractors are paying for these job leads, I kindly let them know in my e-mail that i pay for the job lead regardless of whether I get the job or not, the responses are about 70% people if given the correct information don't want anyone to waste time and money, servicemagic is the first and only advertising I've done in 10 years of being in business, I think without it I probably wouldn't be in business today, my word of mouth referrals ran out and new construction is pretty much obsolete, so you have to take the good with the bad, but for now I am staying positive with service magic. Service Magic just like any of the legitimate online lead generation sources is hit and miss. I have had dismal success and I have had great success. One of the keys is connecting with the homeowner immediately and a few other major steps I figured out over the last few years. The sit rate is way up and the closing rate is 70%. You have to look at the cost of your lead generation versus your gross dollar. If you look at it as "there goes another 35 dollars" you will drive yourself mad. The success I am now having with service magic is due to several factors and once I figured out how to service the internet shopper my percentages of sits and sales went way up. It's your business ladies and gentlemen, figure out how to make lemonade out of lemons.
I don't mean to anger anyone here and I am sure that all of you that are posting here are serious business people but I must admit, most comments posted are placing blame not searching for solutions.

Sales is a numbers game always has been, always will be. Spend $1000.00 with Yellow Pages and get 1 or 2 calls. Spend $1000.00 with an online lead vendor and have a shot at 25 or 30 customers. That my friends is the reality of it.
