Find Top-Rated Professionals

No one likes to sublet their home to the critters that might take up residence there. But before you call an insect extermination professional, here are some ways ensure you're getting the best extermination service you can:

  • Shop around. It is a good idea to get a few estimates before signing on with an insect extermination firm. Beware the extermination services that go door-to-door offering unsolicited "free inspections". They may try to scare you into signing right away.
  • Take your time. The bugs aren't going anywhere, so don't let a consultant rush you into making a decision. You are paying for knowledge, so be sure your insect extermination professional is someone you can trust. Before you sign on, read the contract carefully and make sure you understand the nature of your pest prevention problem, the extermination services being offered, and what kind of work will be performed.
  • Check their credentials. A good pest prevention company will have liability insurance, which will cover any damage that might occur to your house. They will also be members of a credible national, state, or local association of insect extermination professionals. For certain chemicals, a special license is also required. Don't be afraid to ask to see an extermination service's licenses and insurance certificate. You can usually check on any company by calling your state's Department of Agriculture.
  • Ask for references. Friends and neighbors can be a good source of information about different pest prevention firms, and the company itself should be able to provide you with the names of some satisfied customers.
  • Find out about guarantees. Most reputable extermination services guarantee their work. Read the fine print to be sure about what the guarantee covers, how long it's good for, and what kind of on-going maintenance is necessary to keep it valid.
  • If you're not part of the solution. Be active in the process of pest prevention. Ask your insect extermination professional what you can do to keep the critters from coming back.

Follow these tips, and you're sure to get a reliable extermination service that will keep your home pest-free for a long time.
