Let's face it, you don't want to be the only house without any Holiday lights. Christmas lights are just as common as candy canes anymore. However, just like Halloween can give you a chance to be someone else for a night, the Holidays give you a chance to dress up your home. Holiday lights are a staple, and they are available in so many different styles and colors that the possibilities are endless.
Christmas Lights
Christmas lights are now available in icicle designs, runners, flashing bulbs, not to mention the full spectrum of colors. Holiday lighting can be used to outline the trim of your house, the windows, or just to wrap around your bushes. Christmas lights are what make families want to get in their cars and drive around during the Holidays to see how people have chosen to light up their homes. Holiday lights are a point of home pride anymore.
If you don't have the time, aren't able, or just don't want to hang your Christmas lights, contact a professional to have him install your favorite choices.
Holiday Lights & Luminaria
If you are not the showy type but still want to decorate for the holidays, single candles in each window is a subtle way to join the Holiday light party. These candles can be the lights that are shaped like candles or you can choose the real thing.
Luminaria is another great way to both decorate for the Holidays and provide some lighting for your walk. Luminarias are decorative paper bags that are weighted with sand, which have single votive candles placed in the bottom to illuminate the sacks. Luminaria can be used during any season to mark your walkway or entry or just as a nice way to add a little color outside. This has become a very popular Holiday lighting choice in the past few years.
Don't Forget
If you are going shopping for your Holiday decorations, don't forget the lights for the Christmas tree, the lights for the wreath on your door, or the little stakes if you want to illuminate your driveway. Also, you might need some more extension cords to handle the outdoor lights and to stretch them as far as needed.
Some lighting systems will be equipped with a small box for batteries. These are good for door wreaths so they won't come unplugged when someone answers the door.
The plastic stakes have a small clip that you can snap the wires directly into. They will hold the lights about six inches off the ground.
With extra lighting, your electricity bill is likely to be higher during the Holidays. This is a small price to pay for home decorations. However, if you want to conserve energy or even a little money, have a set time for your lights to be on, or buy a light timer that will turn your lights on and off for you. Set them once and you won't have to mess with them again.
