Are you tired of the same look to every sink: the traditional basin, the old-fashioned knobs or levers, and then of course the everyday faucet. No matter what kind of unit you own, every faucet looks almost exactly the same: a long piece of metal jutting over your kitchen and bathroom sinks, tubs, and showers.

Since modern-day plumbing was invented, this design has remained with us because of its economy and practicality. But where is the style, the flair, the flourish? How is it that when it comes to water fixtures, nothing ever changes.

Recently there has been a unique innovation in design and style by combining a one-of-a-kind look with a relaxing function. The waterfall faucet has actually been around for awhile, but only recently has it taken off in popularity, so instead of finding it only in unique settings, such as houses of the rich and famous or public art museums, these faucets have become a fixture in many everyday homes.

Design
Like any faucet in your home, waterfall faucets don't come with any new parts; they've simply been modernized. At first you may look at these innovative faucets and be confused since most come in an interesting glass-plate design: an angled glass tray hangs several inches above the sink by a long sloping cylinder, and in the middle of the plate a long, metal rod stick into the air. On first glance, there's a bit of mystery surrounding it, but when you turn shift the metal lever and water soon courses out across the plate and falls off of the glass like a literal waterfall, washing your hands or dishes becomes a delight.

However, if this design is too avant-garde for you, there are other options. If you want a more rustic look to your system, then there are also spout faucets. These waterfall faucets look like old-fashioned pipes that jut out from the sink like you're about to fill a pail from a well. These also come in many types of designs, and are made of such metals as pewter, brass, or plated nickel. Their traditional beauty within a modern home adds a nice twist to the everyday, and their simple design makes them easy to clean around and maintain. Basically, when in you're in the market for waterfall faucets, you can get as contemporary or classic as you want while still keeping the same quality result.

Relax
Not only do these faucets create an interesting and rare appearance to any sink, they are also quite relaxing. The mood they create is not simply due to their look, but also the atmosphere they provide when they're in use. Think how many people buy CDs or sound machines to replicate the relaxing sounds of waterfalls, rain, and ocean waves. You now have that same feel right at your bathroom sink. A gentle calm pours out of your sink every time you clean away the dirt and stress of the day, which only adds to the clean look of the faucet itself.

In fact, many of these faucets have been so thoroughly enjoyed due to their relaxing nature that people have moved them from the sink and into the shower. Why just let your hands have all the fun; imagine the feel of a waterfall cascading over your entire body every morning. These faucets are suspended above one's head instead of being permanently attached to the wall, and instead of a stream of water pouring at you, there is a gentle rain pouring on top of you. It's the feel of standing outside in a soothing rainstorm while within the protective safety of your own shower.
