Q: We have an approximate four-foot squared area near the entrance of the master bedroom that squeaks and creaks. Any suggestions for quieting it down?
A: The squeaking noise you are hearing in the flooring is the plywood riding up and down on the shank of the existing nails. The wood has shrunk over time allowing this to happen. You must take up the carpet and padding and screw down the plywood floor into the floor joists. You will probably need a carpet professional to cut and re-seam the carpet.
