Undoubtedly, one of the most important areas of any home is the kitchen, and one of the most important spots in the kitchen is the oven and stove range, since it's where the food you provide for your family is cooked. Whether you're simply looking for an upgrade or need to replace your current stove as part of a kitchen remodel, you're probably in the process of considering your options. An electric stove is, by no means, a bad choice.
Benefits of an Electric Stove
While some homeowners prefer gas stoves, there are many things to be said for electric stoves. They are significantly cheaper to run than gas stoves and a lot safer. Electric stoves will also produce a more consistent, controllable heat source, making them more convenient to use and reduces the likelihood that you'll burn your food. Perhaps the most coveted trait of electric stoves is that they are easier to clean. Gas stoves not only usually need to be cleaned almost after each use, but level surface electric stoves eliminate the nooks and crannies where charred grime tends to gravitate. Often, they can be cleaned with a few easy swipes.
Cost and Features
Electric stoves can cost as little as a few hundred dollars and can range up to several thousand. It all depends on what you need, what you want, and what you can afford. One advantage of replacing a stove as part of a remodel is that some companies offer a free refrigerator or stove as part of a kitchen remodeling package. This may allow you to choose a higher-end stove than you may have otherwise considered and/or enable you to put your remodeling budget into other areas of your kitchen. Some extras that different electric stove models may have are digital controls, warmer drawers, clocks, and glass top stove ranges.
Wood Stove Tradition
With all the advancements of energy-efficient homes, often the simplest answers can be overlooked. Wood stoves, naturally, require no power from your utility company or the use of any non-renewable resources. Wood-burning stoves can provide heat both to the oven and the surface ranges. Many chefs and people prefer the taste of food cooked with wood; it gives the food a natural, distinctive flavor. The one major disadvantage of wood stoves is keeping up with your wood supply. Most homeowners who elect to install a wood stove live in a rural, wooded area. If you have easy access to a store, though, you can always purchase firewood or you can make periodic trips to lumberyards, where the wood is cheaper. Though it may sound like a hassle to some, wood stoves are a viable option for many homeowners.
Electric Wood Stoves
Electric wood stoves aren't really stoves at all. Essentially, they are ventless, freestanding electric fireplaces. They can add a traditional touch to any room in your home, approximating the look of an old-style hearth. They are a great idea for homeowners who can't afford to install a standard fireplace. Most electric wood stoves don't cost more than a few hundred dollars and can be set up, plugged in, and ready to go very quickly. Still, it's not the kind of appliance that you'll want to use for your cooking, no matter how throwback you'd like to be.
