Doormats Welcome You Home

When a guest arrives to your front step, the first thing they are greeted with is a locked door and a vacant porch. It can feel a little cold and empty, so a great way to warm up your entryway and welcome people to your home is with a nice doormat. Of course these items are mostly functional, especially in wet weather, but there are so many ways to personalize these mats that they have now become a decorative point of interest in most homes.

Keep It Clean
Calling someone a doormat suggests negative connotations: they are trampled over, walked on, and wiped with dirt and mud. In other words, they take a beating from everybody else's actions. Though this is a horrible thing to be in life, these are the actual goals of the real thing: these mats take your abuse so other items in your house won't have to. They are your home's protectors against outside debris since they trap and hold dirt from your shoes. In essence, they save your carpets, tile, and linoleum. So the next time you think of someone as a doormat, try to do so with an iota of respect: they're doing all your dirty work for you.

More Than a Mat
Though they do serve a direct purpose, many of these mats can actually spruce up a home. The front entrance of a house gives the first impression, and we all know how important those are. Therefore, make your guests and yourself feel welcomed. You can personalize these items with monograms, addresses, printed designs, funny slogans, silly pictures, ironic jokes, seasonal prints, or just the standard "Welcome" which is in so many homes. They also come in many different materials for your perusal:

Fabric: Most of these are comprised of natural fibers which form a course, rustic surface. This woven material can warm up a space, can easily trap debris, and is quickly cleaned with a quick brushing, though they may not be as resilient over time.
Metal: Many mats are made from aluminum and other metals and come in many distinct designs which are derived from wood carvings. These are especially elegant and are very durable against outdoor weather elements.
Rubber/Polypropylene: These mats are great defenders against harsher materials, such as snow, mud and heavy rain. They are durable, won't fade, are reversible, and offer wonderful traction.

The Shape of Things
Doormats don't come in just one size and aren't just used for one thing. Instead of just a little square sitting on your porch, they can also be long runways for entire foyers or hallways for additional protection against snow and rain, especially if you have pets who like to shake after getting wet. These longer mats can channel and drain moisture away from your valuable floors. Or if you're simply interested in the look of things, more stylish designs are available. Mats can be cut in the pattern of different objects, such as animals and people. They might not be as durable, but they are fun to look at.

Also, remember that these items don't have to be just an outdoor tool. They can be used indoors in between rooms in order to wipe your feet or store your footwear. They can be in cars; they can be on boats. They're often fade-resistant and mildew resistant, and since these products are so durable and handy they can be used anywhere (in any shape and form) that needs some extra protection against the outdoors.
