Find Top-Rated Professionals

Since you can find drywall in an overwhelming amount of residential structures in Chicago, drywall repair is a concern of nearly every homeowner in the area at one time or another. Fixing drywall can be a simple job in some cases, while other scenarios are decidedly more complex and involved; whether you are planning to hire a professional to do the job for you, or you are attempting to do the work yourself, knowing a bit about the process can be beneficial in planning a successful project.

Common Reasons for Drywall Repair in Chicago
Though easy to work with and beautiful if properly finished (not to mention inexpensive), drywall does have some drawbacks as a building material. The two most common causes for drywall damage in the Windy City are impact and excessive moisture. Minor moisture damage can discolor drywall and leave a stain, while more extreme moisture exposure (like the kind that happens when a pipe bursts or a basement gets flooded) can actually cause drywall to crumble. When it comes to impact, quick-moving doorknobs and flying video game controllers or TV remotes are common culprits. Though these impacts generally leave only dents in the drywall, if they happen with enough force, actual holes in the wall are far from unheard of.

Hiring a Chicago Drywall Repair Person
Though you can certainly go into the phone book and call a company that specializes in installing drywall for your repairs, another alternative is just as quick, and could end up being an even better choice. Most minor drywall repair can be handled by a handyman service. The benefit of hiring a handyman rather than a contractor that specializes in drywall is that the former will be able to tackle several small jobs around the house in a single visit.

If you need to replace a faulty light switch or electrical outlet, stop a leaky sink, fix a sticking door, or any other small task in addition to repairing minor drywall damage, your handyman will be able to get all of these done on the same day. This generally ends up saving homeowners money by eliminating the multiple minimum charges it would take to hire several different service providers. Make sure, however, to let the handyman service know in advance all of the tasks you want completed, so the person that comes to your home will be prepared with all of the materials he or she will need for each job.

DIY Chicago Drywall Repair
Even though this task is relatively quick when done by a professional hand, and though it is generally inexpensive around Chicago, drywall repair is one job that many homeowners like to attempt themselves. In theory, this job is a snap, and there are many resources that will make it seem as such. You can purchase videos, books, and even drywall repair kits, but be careful, as getting professional results is definitely not as easy as it might look! While just about anyone should be able to fill a dent or seal a small hole with relative ease, getting the finished product to flow seamlessly with the rest of the wall can be difficult to say the least.
