It wasn't too long ago that you'd have been laughed off the sales floor if you asked for a flooring product that was tough as nails, easy on the eyes, a breeze to install, and budget friendly to boot. Not the case anymore. Today's lines of laminate flooring are all of those things and more, making them the perfect choice for just about any application across the Greater Boston area.

Boston Laminate Flooring is Tough Laminate flooring in Boston has always touted durability as one of its greatest assets, and for good reason. The combination of a resin and wood core bonded under high pressure, combined with a topcoat that is literally one of the toughest flooring surfaces homeowners can buy, adds up to a product that lives up to its tough reputation in every respect. Doesn't matter if you've got a small pack of dogs at home, a herd of children, or both, laminate flooring in Boston is the perfect product for homeowners who require high resilience in a flooring material. The other plus in the durability department: fade resistance. That scratch and impact resistant topcoat also prevents the fading caused by exposure to sunlight that is commonly associated with hardwood flooring.

Boston Laminate Flooring is Easy to Work With The second reason laminate flooring in Boston has gained such a loyal following among Bostonians is because it's so easy to install. Laminate flooring forms a "floating" floor. That means you don't have nail it to the subfloor like hardwood flooring, or go through the laborious process of mortaring that's required when you lay tile. All you have to do is lay a padding down over your subfloor, saw your planks of laminate to proper lengths, fit them tightly together, and you're good to go. Some lines of laminate have planks with tongue and groove joints that must be glued together (you can apply the glue yourself, or purchase a product that has the glue pre-applied at the factory), while others (referred to as "click together" or "snap together" flooring) are manufactured so that you can literally "snap" the planks together, and forget about adhesives altogether. To put it plainly, if they made this stuff any easier to install, it would have to install itself.

Boston Laminate Flooring is Beautiful In the past, if you had to choose one area where laminate flooring fell short, it would be in the looks department. It wasn't that earlier lines of laminate flooring were ugly, but they weren't exactly dead wringers for the hardwood flooring they were meant to imitate, either. Not the case anymore. Whether you choose oak, pine, bamboo, cherry, maple, stone tile, ceramic tile, or any of the many other "finishes" that laminate flooring comes available in today, what you're really looking at once you get your flooring installed is a high resolution image (i.e. photograph) that is glued to the core material, and sealed beneath the topcoat. Thanks to advances in technology, those images are so sharp that most laminate flooring look enough like the real thing that most people won't be able to tell the difference except under close scrutiny.

Boston Laminate Flooring is Cost-Effective If the good looks, durability, and easy installation of laminate flooring in Boston don't win you over, the price probably will. As with any product, the cost of laminate varies with quality, however a decent laminate floor can be purchased for $3 to $6 per square foot, including installation. That's about half of what you'd expect to spend on traditional materials like hardwood flooring or tile. For a little bit more, you can get more durable finishes with more realistic textures, and if you have an area in your home where a cheaper product will do the trick (utility rooms or a basement, for example), it's not uncommon to find laminate on sale for less than a dollar per square foot at big box stores and whole sale retailers (DIYers only)!

While Boston is known for tradition and loyalty (what other city can boast a fan base that grew more and more fanatical during an 86-year title drought?), laminate flooring is one area where Bostonians might want to consider shedding old loyalties for the new kid in town. Whether you do this one yourself (laminate is an excellent DIY product for just about any homeowner), or prefer to hire the job out, talk to a contractor or retailer that specializes in laminate flooring and installation about what it will take to get your installation under way.
