How many times has this happened to you? You come home from a long day of work, grab a snack, and sit to watch a little TV. When you're ready for bed, you go to your room, set your alarm and get under the covers.

As you begin to doze off, you are awakened by the sound of a lawnmower next door. Pretty soon all sorts of noises are entering the room. You hear someone honking a car horn outside; somewhere close, there's construction going on. The worst part of all, coming in from your window, is a stream of the brightest light you've ever seen! If this situation doesn't sound familiar, you probably don't work nights.

Your Bedroom Curtains
In most cases, bedroom curtains are little more than decoration. Of course, they get closed when you don't want people looking in. Only for a certain few, however, are they truly necessary for maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle. People who work the third (or graveyard) shift, require greater functionality from their bedroom curtains.

Blackout Curtain Benefits
When 100% light blockage is a must, blackout curtains are the way to go. They are easy to install, and will block all the light entering a room. In this capacity, they out perform traditional curtains and blinds by far.

While it might be cheaper to put a light blocking film over your windows, this film is generally not easy to move around. Blackout curtains are mobile and can be installed and reinstalled as many times as it is necessary.

Some third shift workers have resorted to literally boarding up their windows to get a better night's sleep. This is not only not aesthetically pleasing, but a fire hazard as well. Many blackout curtains, on the other hand, are flame resistant, which makes putting them up not only better looking, but safer, too.

Other Blackout Curtain Uses
Day walkers will find that these curtains not only block sunlight, but light from street lamps and passing cars as well.

As television and computer screens get larger, the glare on them becomes harder and harder to block. Using blackout curtains in living rooms or home offices can eliminate this problem entirely.

Since their construction is so thick and heavy, blackout curtains provide a degree of insulation higher than that of most curtains or blinds. This is a big plus in climates where heating or cooling costs are very high.

Blackout curtains cost more than conventional curtains, but for the people who need them most, it will be worth it. A better workday is proceeded by a better night's rest, even if that night's rest happens during the day.
